NCF is a telecommunications service provider that originated from the people at Carleton University in Ottawa. NCF was founded in 1992 and has been providing internet services since then. NCF is a not for profit organization and thus claims to have the lowest prices available for customers, whether or not that is true will be put to the test shortly. NCF only provides internet services and no other telecommunications services such as VoIP or television services.
NCF also claims to let the users decide the service they get and thus the reason behind their success. GoneVoIP will now review one of the basic internet plans that NCF has to offer to residential users.
NCF offers a basic starter plan which comes with download speeds of up to 6 Mbps and upload speeds of to 800 kbps. These speeds are quite consistent with what most other internet service providers offer as their most basic residential plan. This plan also has a very healthy usage being unlimited! and comes out with a total price of $35.95 per month.
This is a price that is very easily beaten by other internet service providers, however. Take for example Worldline, which offers a 6 Mbps connection with upload speeds of to 0.8 Mbps with an unlimited usage cap for $39.95!
Furthermore, if a user is looking to get a capped connection for a lower price they can opt into the services of TekSavvy which offers a 7 Mbps connection with a usage cap of 350 GB for only $27.99 per month!
The additional charges that NCF implements are quite standard, except for the fact they are now offering free set up for this specific plan only, which is a great bonus! The monthly charges for the dry loop are $7.00 before taxes! If a customer is looking to get a static IP as well that would cost an additional four dollars per month! A great aspect we noticed about NCF service is that they offer a period of time which does not count against the monthly limit; from 2 am to noon! Most important of all, customers would not have to force themselves into a contractual agreement when opting into services of NCF.
The Top of the line plan NCF has is the Home Internet plan with a download speed of 50 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps @ $58.95 a month. All DSL plans have a one-time Bell setup fee of 49.95.
NCF also offers two modem options as the buyout, the DSL modem at $80 dollars and VDSL+ (higher speeds) at $100.
NCF overall is a very safe choice considering they offer a very large usage cap and a price that isn’t that high when compared to other internet service providers who offer cheap yet reliable plans. The extra charges are also impressive considering the customer has no need to worry about the setup fees!
