PennyTalk, formerly known as Net2Phone, was established in 2001. PennyTalk is part of the IDT group, Head Office found in Newark, NJ.
PennyTalk does offer some competitive rates when compared to the major telecom operators, like Bell or Rogers. but it continues with some of the practices of adding 'extra fees' established and typically used by Phone Cards.
To illustrate this, for instance to the cost of each call is the rate per minute + $0.49 (connection fee), or a $0.99 service fee charged monthly (maintenance fee).
PennyTalk international rates, when compared to other Long Distance providers, and after factoring the above fees, are generally not so good. For example, you could get VoIP Much Home Phone with better long-distance rates, do not have these garnishing fees, you truly pay for talking and all with one phone.
Even though PennyTalk promotes iPhone and Android Apps, neither of them are available at the time Gonevoip conducted the review.
