Thunderstar Communications is an internet service provider focused on providing affordable internet accessibility in numerous regions in the United States and Canada. They provide dial-up services as well as DSL connectivity. They also provide other services such as network security protocols, web designing, and domain hosting. A few things about Thunderstar, however, remain a mystery sadly, such as the location of their headquarters. Their contact us page isn’t working at all, and the about us page doesn’t have much to offer about their history and where they formulated from.
Our focus, however, will be on the here and now as we review one of Thunderstar Communication’s bread and butter residential internet plans to see how they stack up against the competition.
Thunderstar Communications offers unlimited bandwidth allocation for all of their plans. The plan we will discuss is called the Thunderstar 5 MB high-speed plan. This plan comes with download speeds of up to 5 MBPS and upload speeds that were not mentioned. This plan is priced at a total of $29.95 per month which for all intents and purposes isn’t too bad of a price. CIK offers a residential internet plan that comes with download speeds of up to 6 MBPS and upload speeds of up to 1 MBPS for only $29.99 per month. The difference in speeds and price aren’t that great but Thunderstar Communications does fall short a tad bit.
Now the problem begins with additional charges that Thunderstar Communications may or may not be implementing. As mentioned in the description of their plan, this plan is considered to be a DSL plan. Whether or not a dry loop is required for this plan, and whether or not Thunderstar Communications can provide the dry loop is unknown. Furthermore, no mention was made of the setup or activation fees that would be required when opting for the services of Thunderstar Communications. We did however like the list of software provided on the Thunderstar Communications website for effective protection from malware and spyware. Luckily the acceptable usage policy didn’t mention any limitations on the unlimited nature of the plan being offered.
Thunderstar Communications is definitely bringing a lot to the table, but they have to bring just a tad bit more. More Information about whether or not additional charges like the setup, or activation, or dry loop exist or not is very important. The pricing can be worked upon as well, but it definitely the least of their problems. Modernizing the look and feel of their website would be perhaps priority number one.
